Thursday Night belongs to Touch

On Thursday nights at Wycliffe (October - March) and at Hollybush (April - September), our club really comes together. Touch rugby has become the one place where every section of Minchinhampton Rugby Club mixes, trains and enjoys the game side by side. It’s not unusual to see boys and girls from our Minis and Juniors lining up alongside seniors – and often, as one senior said, “giving them a proper run for their money.”

What makes Touch extra special is the chance for families to play together. Mums and dads sharing the pitch with sons and daughters is something you don’t often see in rugby, and it says a lot about who we are as a club: welcoming, inclusive and proud of our community.

Of course, Touch isn’t just about the opportunity to play across genders and club sections.  It’s a brilliant way to sharpen core rugby skills, with lots of ball movement, quick hands and decision-making under pressure. It also builds fitness fast – most of us clock up around 5k in a session without even noticing. As someone observed recently, “You get fitter while having fun”

And then there’s the social side. Training often rolls naturally into a trip to the pub to talk rugby, family and life in general – very much part of the Touch tradition.

If you’re new to rugby, returning after a break, or just fancy a runabout, Touch could be for you. We’re always ready to welcome new faces at Wycliffe, Thursdays at 6.30pm.
